Lemala Ngorongoro Camp

Lemala Ngorongoro is an intimate, seasonal camp set in a delightful, ancient acacia forest on the rim of the crater next to the quiet Lemala access route. The camp offers accommodation under canvas in only 8 luxury tents (accommodating 16 to 20 guests) and 1 family tent (accommodating 4 to 5 guests), which ensures seclusion in a pristine forest environment.

Each spacious tent is fitted with a gas heater, large single or king-size beds with warm duvets, wooden flooring with rugs, 24-hour solar lighting, en-suite bathrooms with a dressing area, flush toilet and a large safari shower. House alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and laundry are included.

The mess tent is beautifully furnished with grand sofas, lamps, book shelves and corner cabinets in old wood, chests and rugs. In the evening, guests gather around the campfire for sundowners before dining under chandeliers, which is hosted by the camp manager. The camp works closely with the local Masai community who often provide dances and talks on Masai life, their cultures, traditions and ceremonies. Guests enjoy the opportunity to interact with the Masai, learning more about their traditional lifestyles.

Lemala’s major advantage over any other accommodation in this area, is the quick and easy access into the crater, which maximizes game viewing opportunities. The morning crater traffic is therefore avoided. Game drives from the camp may start as early as 6.15am and it only takes 15 minutes to descend onto the crater floor, the scenery is breath-taking and the wildlife abundant. Very often Lemala clients are on their own on the crater floor, enjoying the solitude and early morning light. Lemala guests therefore enjoy longer and significantly higher quality game drives.

The other advantage of this location is its close proximity to Ol Moti and Empakai craters, which offer beautiful landscapes and scenery. Walks from the camp into the forest and along the crater rim together with an armed ranger and the Masai gives guests spectacular panoramas of the crater and an insight into the forest dwelling animals. Lemala camps also offer private hot lunches inside the crater or breakfast with the Masai on request.

Lemala offers great charm and luxury in a delightful prime location on the crater rim. It is perhaps the most intimate way to experience the crater’s splendours. Don’t miss this gorgeous seasonal camp facing a lovely forest filled with sounds of wildlife, birds and the bells of Masai cattle.

Your comfort and pleasure whilst you’re staying with us is our main concern.

Each cosy room has mosquito-netted king or twin beds, a fireplace, large bathroom with shower and a veranda from which to enjoy the views of our lush tropical gardens. Triples are possible with prior notice and two of the cottages can be used as family suites, with connecting rooms.

There is a large common area building housing reception, lounge, bar, gift shop and dining rooms. The swimming pool sits in the centre of the property surrounded by the cottages and gardens.

Ngorongoro Farm House

A small and exclusive lodge facing the Oldeani Volcano, only 5 kilometers from the Ngorongoro Lolduare gate, was built to offer our clients an original experience reminiscent of the atmosphere of the old days.

Ngorongoro Farm House was inaugurated on February 20th 2003, and is offering 50 room cottages with ample space inside, built on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials and full of details of good taste, with the purpose of offering our clients an imaginary journey to the life of the days gone.

Ngorongoro Farm House is a perfect stopover within any safari in the Northern Circuit of Tanzania and a privileged place to visit the Crater or enjoy a bunch of activities: Like a walking safari to the adjacent forest leading to the Oldeani Volcano or an excursion to the nearby Lake Eyasi in the Rift Valley, still inhabited by a tribe of hunter-gatherers, the Hadzabe, a relic of ancient times who still follow a style of life similar to the humans who inhabited the Earth before the discovery of agriculture.

Another interesting tribe are the Datoga or Barabaig, also called Mangati (fierce enemy) by the Maasai who expelled them from the Ngorongoro Highlands during their unstoppable advance to the south some time in the 19th century.

A visit to the village of Karatu or the Njia Panda school, rehabilitated with the contributions of our clients, can also make the day of anyone interested in cultural interaction or in helping to the development of the rural communities of Africa.
